The largest PC133 SDR SODIMM is 512MB so the largest X24 memory would be 640MB, 128MB on MB + 512MB in DIMM slot.

The X30 uses the same memory system but with 2 DIMM slots. So the maximum is 1MB.

i'm sorry to contradict you...but i'm sure that exist!
1 i found one year ago a topic about it with the address of seller
2 i found few mounths ago in two different lists of ebay seller that sodimm; one in Usa and one in Gb: i thought that i couldn't use it so i didn't care even because it was very expensive : 69€ (about 95$).
now i try to find the item on ebay but i didn't find it.
in any case thankyou for your help

As far as I know, 512MB is the limit for a single PC133 SDRAM SODIMM (what the X24 requires). If you found a listing for 1GB PC133 SODIMM, then it is either for two 512MB modules, usually written as "2X512MB", or the memory is actually a DDR version (double data rate and not usable in the X24) or it's not really an SODIMM (i.e, it's desktop memory - 168 pin DIMM).

for sure you know more than me...but i'm sure to have seen that..i red very well the auctions just because i knew too that there weren't and i never saw before....than the price was very expensive
so i can think that it was a froud..that they were thieves?
i say this because the auction was clear and the pic too! it was a sodimm e they wrote 1gb low density sodimm pc 133.
than an other topic last year talk about sodimm pc 133 1gb very difficult to find
thankyou for your help

Well, if the eBay seller was saying that it's "low density" AND 1GB, then they are not using that density term in the normal manner. "Low density" has been traditionally used to describe the difference between modules built with 16MB memory chips (low) and 32MB chips (high density). A 1GB "low density" module would require 64 chips on the board!

Using "pc133 1gb low density sodimm" as an eBay search, I find that all of the results are "2 x 512MB". Removing "low density" from the search, more results are found but they are still for two 512MB modules. If you do find the auction/seller again, please post a link here and we'll take a look at it.

It is possible to have a 1GB DIMM but should be an ECC DIMM/SODIMM.

Here is a non-ECC 1GB but 168pin DIMM.

Hmm... looking at that module in the eBay listing, it has what seems to be at least 8 Samsung K4S510832B-TC75 memory chips. Those are 64M x 8 parts ; one in each "corner" of the module and something else obscured by the labels in the middle. I would think that it's the extra memory chip to support the error detection/correction mode (ECC). I'm also assuming that the other side of the module is similarly populated. In any event, if there's only eight of those K4S510832 parts on the board, then that's only a total of 512MB. For it to actually have 1024MB, there would have to be a special stacking arrangement - two of those 64MB chips, one mounted on top of the other. If that's the case, I don't know if the module would physically fit in the X24's memory slot; the module may be too thick.

Whether 1GB modules exist or not, according to the Intel 830M chipset datasheet (used on the X22-X30) it only supports up to 512Mb chips and only a total of 1GB using those chips so adding 1GB to the built-in 128MB probably wouldn't work. To get 1GB on the X22-X24 you'd probably need to replace the 128MB with 512MB.

This Cisco module is an ECC version too. The other link is too sketchy to tell whether it is for real or not.

Since the ECC bits are mapped on different I/O, a good experiment is to write a non-ECC profile into the ECC module SPD and see if it would boot. This has to be done on an EPROM programmer since system would not boot with the ECC module inserted. Here is my home made SPD reader/writer:

But if jdrou is correct, then there would not be enough control lines to get a single 1GB SODIMM to work in X24.

It's soldered onto the mainboard.
Replaceing it would be anything but trivial.

It is impossible.

The X24 has 4 DRAM chip placements on the motherboard and if each chip is 512Mb (bits) maximum, the total gives you 256MB (bytes); 512Mb/8*4=256MB. They use 4 pieces of 32Mx16 chips in 256MB and 16Mx16 chips in 128MB versions. The 512MB SODIMMs would use 8 pieces of 64Mx8 chips to make 512MB size.

thankyou to all ..first of all!
as you say it seems a simple thing...but i don't know where chips are located in mb and how to rocognize them;there is somebody that can show me them with pic?
is it possible for a X22 mb?
how i can disassembly them and assembly? there is some tutorial with pic or video?
if it is so simple can i disassembly cpu too to upgrade (for X22) to a 1,13gb or 1,2 gb P3 M cpu ?
what kind of tools i need to do it? (i have cpu ) and for memory chip (i have a 512 mb 133mhz sodimm)? can i use a soddimm to disassembly by it and assembly to the mb or when can i find chips or what?
i think i'll buy a mb for few $ that i found in ebay to improve my skills :D
thankyou

Here is photo of a X22 MB:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0035674506

The four chips in the top photo are the DRAMs. They are x16s. The ones used on SODIMMs are x8s. The 512MB SODIMMs in my X24/X30 are 256MB x 2 banks using 32Mx8 chips.

Likewise the CPU in X2x series are soldered to the MB. The only way to upgrade is to buy a MB.

but, as i see on pic, even the chips of memory are soldered! so if i can't remove them or what? i saw my 512 mb sodimm and has 16 chips but they are soldered one on other...so it'is impossible to remove them too..isn't it?
so how can i do this project?..the mb that i could buy to improve has not that price but only 10$ inclusive shipping! just a pizza and beer as we say!
but the problem is: how can i remove chip from mb? where to find the x64s memory chips?
so now can i assume that i can't have 512 mb on mb + 512 on sodimm?

Yes, the chips on the MB is 32Mx16 (512Mbit each) x4 pieces for 256MB MBs. The chipset doesn't support 64Mx16 chips (1Gbit each) needed to make 512MB. Not sure why, probably short of one address line or refresh scheme. People remove chips from MBs using hot air heat guns. I did it once or twice in a kitchen oven, of course with a scrap board.

The stacked chips on the SODIMM were used by manufacturers who wish to use their older TSOP packaging assembly equipment. BGA/CSP assembly were more expensive in the beginning. The top chip has slightly longer legs and may be missing one pin.

My 512MB SODIMMs use BGA (CSP) and they looked to be 32Mx8 chips organized in two banks of 256MMB, 2nd line from the bottom on this page:
