Need help to backup

#1 Post by eosme » Tue Jun 16, 2009 11:22 pm

hi all, i need some help in creating a recovery disk for the drive in my x200 before i start dumping crap into it. i noticed there are 3 different partitions and i'm thinking of using acronis.

has anyone experience using acronis in creating a recovery disc? i tried to use the thinkadvantage one, but it would only save to an optical drive and not to a SD card. not sure if it will work with the usb drive, but if it does work, how big of a size would i need?

finally, i want to create an recovery, so when i clean format and install the win7 and if i screw it up, i can still at least revert back. please help soon~

thanks.

I just attempted my first last night, using the Thinkvantage create Recovery/product Media, and failed, so my only advice would be to not depend on that method.

In my case, I ran out of disks, tried to give it one it could erase (it asked for "empty or erasable," soo...) and when it said it couldn't, I hit Cancel instead of OK... and the entire ap shut down. Since that was my one shot, I was stuck with nothing, after nearly 3 hours of backing up.

So I can only advise following the advice of MGO in this thread, and make a backup using Vista... or acronis, if others agree. I'm not familiar with it.

Good luck!

Hi,

The recovery disk option for me was flawed as well. I had a bad image on my machine from the factory so it wouldn't have mattered. You can always ask for the recovery disks from Lenovo. Some people have said that they cost money but they never charged me for the wrongs they sent nor the correct ones I asked for 3 months latter.
