Hard drive question

I am very close to having no space on my current hard drive. I would like to just replace the hard drive. I have a R61e. How hard would it be to replace the hard drive? And how would I go about getting a Windows XP disc? To reinstall windows if I put in a new hard drive. My computer didn't come with the disc.

Replacing the HD is a matter of a few minutes. Take the old one out, transfer the caddy and cover to the new HD, and put it back in.
Using programs like Acronis TrueImage, you could clone your old HD to the new one. This would save you a reinstall.
If you want to go from scratch, put a "want to buy" (WTB:) ad in the Market forum for a set of R61e Recovery disks for XP.

As far as obtaining the XP OS, besides the other good ideas that have been posted in this thread there is another option. One that I use, as I don't mind paying the $45.00 that Lenovo charges to ship you a factory created set. While I've often burned my own using the utility that comes pre-loaded as a one time use way to burn your own, sometimes they do not always turn out usable. So it's simply my preference to call tech support (800-426-7378) and ask them to ship me a set. Three or four days later they have arrived.

I tried that and gave up after it took up about 8 cds. Maybe it does take a lot of cds? Or maybe I would need cds with more space on them? I did them through rescue and recovery. Maybe you're just talking about windows itself?

If you have a DVD burner you can use DVDs and you'll get a lot less of them. If you can borrow an external DVD burner that works too.
