t42 wireless card in T42

how does the 2000g stack up in a T42? and can it/should it be upgraded???

I am guessing you meant the intel Wireless Pro 2200bg. Unless you are using 11a, then this card should suffice. If you are using 11a, then intel Wireless Pro 2915abg or IBM 802.11abg (Atheros) would be the one you want.

Currently there are no native 11n cards. I am using an Atheros AR5008 11n card in my T42p and it works fine.
