A31 Video Corruption problem

#1 Post by monsterzro » Thu Feb 03, 2005 1:15 pm

I got a second hand A31, I sucessfully installed Windows XP SP2 on it, but I'm having issues where the video is distorted whenever I play a dvd or any type of video on the machine. I get black bands thru the video. I ran deadpix, and I only notice a problem on the red screen tests. If I move my mouse around, I get a black faint redraw, but only on the red screen!

Also, sometimes on bootup, I'll get red lines going across the screen at the IBM logo screen.

Any suggestions? If a repair is in order, I probably wouldn't want to spend more than $250

A30 Video Issues

#2 Post by timbuk2 » Thu Feb 24, 2005 1:57 pm

:o Sorry to hear of your woes...

I had a similar problem with my A30 i purchased off of ebay. I was able to identify that the issue was infact bad Video Memory by using Windows based PC Doctor.

I believe that the only solution to fixing this is to replace the Planar Board, as the video memory is part of the board.

Along with the beautiful red pin strips enhancing the IBM Splash screen, my issue also manifests itself when booting to dos. The screen fills with ascii characters and unintelligible text, making most dos based utilities useless.

I hope this is not your issue...

Cheers...
