Upgrade R50e Hard Drive

#1 Post by JonSklar » Sun Jun 21, 2009 2:05 pm

I own a R50e (1842-T4U), which I love and still works great. However, the 40Gb hard drive is almost full and I would like to upgrade it. Western Digital is the only company that I could find that makes 2.5" PATA drives over 160 GB. (and only a few manufacturers now seem to make the PATA drives at all anymore.) WesternDigital, recently introduced a 320GB PATA drive that I am thinking of getting.

WD's pre-sales tech support told me that some laptops have trouble with hard drives over 160Gb. Does anyone know if the R50e will work well with a hdd over 160 gigs? Aside from that, do Western Digital replacement hard drives in general do well in the R50 thinkpads, and will the 'active protection system' still function correctly with a replacement hard drive, whether WD or another?

Thank you for any feedback.

I see no reason it would fail to work. The active protection system should work regardless of the drive.
