upgrading wireless card in X40

I'm charged with bringing my lady's X40 up to date and the first task is to replace the Intel 2100 wireless card to something that supports 802.11g and WPA2. What are my options? I presume the only drop-in replacement is the Intel 2200BG card or are there better Intel/Atheros cards that'll work?

I think 2200bg will need a different install package. For an intel card, you will need to run the Setup utility, not just installing the driver. The following cards should also work:

intel 2915abg
IBM/Atheros 11bg
IBM/Atheros 11abg

I'm confused... AFAIK the Intel 2200 b/g card is a straight swap for the 2100, hardware-wise, so are you saying installing the drivers is an issue because they can't just be pulled off the Lenovo site?

The Atheros cards are a tougher call... the compatible b/g card (FRU 91P7416) is impossible to find, even on ebay. Anyone know where to get one?

The latest 2100b driver package I have is ver 1.2.4.41 and it doesn't show support for 2200bg. The later packages don't support 2100b anymore.

Just installing the driver will not work for intel cards. You have to run the Setup package. So far I've only used driver and Setup packages from lenovo.com so there are no issues I know of.
