My mom threw away the part dad was supposed to return...
Quick question for you guys:
My dad's DVD burner in his T60 stopped working, and had a new one sent to him. Unfortunately, while they were cleaning, mom managed to throw away the box the DVD burner was in, ready to be sent back. Trash went out this morning, so that drive is gone.
I know they have something on their labels saying it has to be returned within 30 days, or they may charge.
What should they do, or is there nothing to worry about?

I think they should pay the bill when it comes.

Well, they will if one is sent.
I just know there have been times where I was sent something like a palmrest when it broke and the screws wouldn't tighten, and I threw it away before I knew about the return sticker, and didn't get anything.
But, a fingerprint reader-less palmrest is a bit different than an optical drive, even if they are both broken.
Think I should tell them to look on ebay for a new one, as it'll likely be cheaper than what Lenovo will bill for?

What's the FRU# ? I probably have a dead drive here, and if I don't somebody else does.

They will charge you...
On a t43 i had last month (still under warranty) had the 14.1" XGA lcd screen replaced.I got the replacement one and changed it myself.my first time doing this and they never said anything about returning the old one. After 30 days i still had the old one home and they(Lenovo) sent me a bill of $768.98 for the cost of the replacement screen. That day i sent the old one back. All is fine now...Crazy how they come up with the price of $768.98 for a "Serviceable used part".

A remotish sort of location (such as "St John's, Newfoundland, Canada") is usually a pre-requisite.carbon_unit wrote:How did you convince them to send you an LCD assembly??

St John's isn't even remotely remote. If you want remote, try some place like Dildo or Come by Chance or even St Anthonybill bolton wrote:A remotish sort of location (such as "St John's, Newfoundland, Canada") is usually a pre-requisite.
As for returning the defective part, I suppose you could wait to see if Lenovo asks for it. If they do you can always try the truth, i.e. that your mom threw it out by accident, and appeal to their compassion. Offer to put your mom on the phone if necessary.
