W500 installation

#1 Post by SmoothRunnings » Mon Jun 22, 2009 5:47 pm

I just realized there was a forum for this, Ooops! :(

I have a W500, that I am trying to get OSX86 installed onto. I tried the Kalaway distro of 10.5.5 and even though it is the best distro for supporting the Intel AHCI SATA driver currently I could not get the LAN, the Wireless, the Video, the Sound to work at all. :(

So I back to square one it seem and I wonder if someone could recommend the best distro to download and go with so I can get that install, as well I found a link to a site were someone had a driver for the ATI FireGL V5700 driver which another guy was able to use in his W500 however the link is broken now and when I attempted to leave a message to the person offering the link or in the thread nothing was visiable after I entered in my request and hit submit, sigh. So if anyone else has this driver could you PM or post the link to it here?

Second the I tried the Intel 82566 driver and again didn't work in Kalaway unless there is someting else I need to do before it does work, yeah I installed it using the kext tool which reported back that there wasn't any problems installing it.

Thanks
Andrew

Is Kalaway still the best for a machine like the W500 or is the new iATKOS v7 improved in any way (other than supporting AHCI)? I've been trying with that and hope to post my results here soon if I'm successful.

EDIT: It has installed, with errors however and has not yet booted properly. I'm currently trying to troubleshoot. According to the makers, if it installs at all, you have at least a 95% chance of successfully running it as well.

Here's hoping.

Wow, iATKOS v7-- it just installed and booted (finally) after I selected quite a few patch/driver options, however failed to recognize my keyboard.

Take II results, soon to follow. Stay tuned.

Out of all those things, the ATI Video is going to be the most difficult, followed by the wifi card. The rest however I'm pretty sure are supported, as my LAN was working right from the get go. I have yet to troubleshoot the other devices, eg USB, however the sheer mass of threads on other forums for iATKOS shows extensive development for drivers. I'm trying to write out a simple install guide first and hope to fill in details of further driver installation after that.

Overall though, things do look promising. Stay hopeful.
