anyone running Microsoft Security Essentials?
anyone running Microsoft Security Essentials?
i noticed that when i was running the zone alarm firewall, my x200 boot up time was very slow. under zone alarm installed, sometimes when i boot up, my fingerprint scanner service isn't available. whereas when i used the MSE, the boot time was fast and haven't experience any fingerprint scanner service not available.
however, sometimes, the MSE will load up as no real time protection.
anyone have that problem as well?

Re: anyone running Microsoft Security Essentials?
MSE is in Beta... and the condition you're reporting is a known fault. I would uninstall it and forget it, there are too many other bugs as well.
There are a few free anti-virus programs like "avast home edition" that are fast and do not slow down, or interfere with the operation of your ThinkPad.

Re: anyone running Microsoft Security Essentials?
Both are good it's largely a matter of personal preference. In my testing of them the primary difference I've experienced is the greater speed and consistent performance of avast. It has also proven to be better at updating the innoculation database more than just once a day when needed. Finally I've yet to experience any conflicts with the many apps I use.

Re: anyone running Microsoft Security Essentials?
hi archer.. thanks for the info on avast. i'll give it a try. i have noticed that AVG does hog up the resources a bit. plus running it with zone alarms.. it really slows down my boot up times.archer6 wrote:Both are good it's largely a matter of personal preference. at first i thought maybe the MSE would have firewall function, but i guess not
Re: anyone running Microsoft Security Essentials?
Actually Windows Defender is not bad, however my choice is PC Tools Firewall Plus (free). Speed is very important to me, therefore I've tested quite a few and find this one the best.eosme wrote:so if running avast which firewall would you recommend?
