advice for vertical Waterfield sleeve
I have an X60s that I want to get a Waterfield sleeve for. Currently I only have the 4-cell (non-slim) battery, but I am thinking about adding the 8-cell at some point. So I'd prefer to only buy one sleeve that will work for both batteries. I've seen some posts here about people using the horizontal sleeve with both the 4 and 8 cell batteries by putting some neoprene strips on the bottom to fill the extra space when using the 4 cell. But I'd really like to get the vertical sleeve because I will mainly be using it in my backpack... I don't think adding strips would work for the vertical case (you'd have to add them on the side and they wouldn't stay put), but I don't want my computer sliding around when using the 4-cell. Am I just over-thinking this? Would the 8-cell vertical one give me decent performance when used with the 4-cell?
Also, the Waterfield site only lists dimensions for the X61 and X61s, nothing for X60. Are they the exact same dimensions? Thanks!

Re: advice for vertical Waterfield sleeve
I have an X60s and X61s, with all three batteries offered. I carry them in Waterfield sleeves, within my backpack or messenger bag. It's the only sleeve I will use. They are so well made, they fit perfectly with no looseness or wrinkles and offer the maximum protection. They last so long, they end up being less expensive than the cheap sleeves that don't last. I have a few Waterfields that are over 6 years old and still look like new. I would buy the horizontal sleeve with a flap and that way you can fill the space with foam when you are using the slim battery. That's what I do and it works just fine.flyingsherpa wrote:I have an X60s that I want to get a Waterfield sleeve for. Re: advice for vertical Waterfield sleeve
Thanks archer6! I just realized that the X60s is so small that it will fit fine horizontally in my backpack, so I think it makes sense to get the 8-cell sized horizontal sleeve like you said. Now I just need to figure out if want the flap, strap, piggyback, kitchen sink...archer6 wrote:I have an X60s and X61s, with all three batteries offered. Re: advice for vertical Waterfield sleeve
I had not seen a Waterfield sleeve until ordering my first one. When I unpacked it I was simply shocked at how nice it was, how well my ThinkPad fit, and the incredibly high quality of materials used. Since then, whenever I order a new ThinkPad I automatically order a sleeve. And yes, deciding amongst all the choices of options is the fun part...flyingsherpa wrote:Thanks archer6! Re: advice for vertical Waterfield sleeve
Hey archer6, if you're still around, can you comment on the sizes of the Cargo bags? I'm thinking of getting the small one but am worried about it being too small. Maybe the medium would be better. But I already have a decent backpack that would fit what the medium or large would fit, so that's why I thought the small would be a new size and style for me. Like an urban daypack... a book or two, water bottle, mp3 player, etc. Nothing huge. Any advice?
Re: advice for vertical Waterfield sleeve
Let me check, as I have all of Waterfields bags in different sizes. Right off the top of my head, I cannot remember the sizes till I look, as I'm traveling today with a Coach Leather Case & my T500. Tomorrow I will look at my Waterfields and post back.

Re: advice for vertical Waterfield sleeve
I took a look at mine, since I have the small, medium and large sizes of Cargo bags. The small is most probably too small for you. I find that in actual use, I end up with only the computer and power supply, very little else, even though the X60s is thin, there still is not much room in it. I would suggest the medium for you. The extra room will end up being much more useful.

Great, thanks for the advice. Wish they had a showroom in NYC so you could see the bags firsthand.

Yes sadly, I'm addicted to ThinkPads, other laptops, and fine bags (casual & business) that protect them. I have a vast collection of bags, backpacks, messenger bags, you name it. A search on the forum here will reveal the variety and number...... YIKES.....flyingsherpa wrote:Wow, you are a bag fanatic if you have all 3 sizes

Re: advice for vertical Waterfield sleeve
archer6, do any of your cargo bags have the leather flap? I'm really digging the red leather option, but am concerned how it would hold up over the years... rain, scratches, scuffs etc. Indium seems like it would be more durable, but I was hoping someone with first-hand experience would know for sure.
Re: advice for vertical Waterfield sleeve
Yes my favorite color is Red, therefore I have the red leather cargo with the paragliding buckle. It's nearing three years old and looks as good as new. However it should be noted, that on day one after unpacking it, I applied a leather conditioner to it, and maintain it appropriately. The strong suit of SF Bags is the high quality materials, stitching, and attention to detail which insures a very durable and good looking product.flyingsherpa wrote:archer6, do any of your cargo bags have the leather flap? Re: advice for vertical Waterfield sleeve
I thought I'd post a reply now that I have my bag. I actually ordered the medium Cargo (with red leather and paragliding buckle) but found it too large for what I wanted. SFbags let me exchange it for a small one, great service. The small is much more my size... I can't stand carrying too much weight on one shoulder, so the small size keeps me in check. If I need to carry more then I'll use my backpack, which has much better weight distribution.
Just wondering if anyone has recommendations on caring for the leather on this bag. I asked SFbags and they were kind of ambiguous about it. I've been reading some forums (purse forums, ha ha) and some say you always should use leather conditioner and others say only use a waterproofer... if anyone has some experience in this matter I'd love any advice you can offer.
