Can't get native resolution on LCD monitor

I have a T41 on which I'm permanently running an external 19" widescreen monitor. In Windows XP I can select the native resolution of my monitor for my desktop. (1680x1050). However when it is displayed the image is shunted over to the left. How can I get it centred? It does look very nice apart from it's off centre.

I've tried all sorts in the ATI Catalyst centre and also directly with the monitor menu itself. Best I can do is get it moved to the right by about 1 inch. Still leaves it off centre and unusable. I really would like to run my monitor at it's native res. Any ideas??

Is this a VGA connection? Most monitors have an auto adjustment button...press that.

If it has a DVI input, get a docking station and use DVI.
