RAM in T500

#1 Post by tjintokk » Fri Jun 26, 2009 2:06 am

Why is the 8500SDRAM 1067MHz in Lenovos, and not 1066MHz as in all other computers. I am on my way to order a T500, my plan was to order it with only 2gb and then buy an extra 2gb SODIMM to put in myself.
Can I use a "normal" 1066Mhz ram chip?

I've never seen an issue with it before. If you're unsure use the Crucial.com memory adviser. They probably just rounded up.

The T500 comes with PC3-8500 1066MHz DDR3, non-parity ram installed.

There is no such thing as 1067, however it's listed as such on the Lenovo site which is just one more example of the many errors on the site. If you wish to confirm this independently you can go to the link I'm posting and it lists all currently available ThinkPads along with proper, and accurate specifications for these computers. In that pdf file you will see 1066 is used.

Also I too used to suggest that people use the Crucial Memory Advisor Tool on their web site. Then recently I used it which is unlike me, as normally I'm just paranoid enough to always check the PSREF book that the link is for. But I was in a hurry so I trusted the Crucial Tool. Ordered the memory, installed it and the computer would not boot. Yes, you guessed it ... the tool was wrong and they sent me the wrong memory. Worst of all, even though it was their error which they readily admitted, they still charged me shipping to exchange the incorrect memory. :(

Cheers...

Actually, both 1066 and 1067 are "correct" (or incorrect depending on one´s view point) as they bear rounding error in the data transfers per second. Same goes for the 667 memory that can be rated as 666 as well (but most vendors don´t do it ´cause it sounds somewhat diabolic -> anyone sees here the great anti-christian conspiracy?...) and probably same applies to the older DDR2-533 memory.

Cheers,
