beep beep beep for hibernation

#1 Post by dcouzin » Sat Jun 27, 2009 12:05 pm

My T42 beeps for many seconds after the lid is closed while the system goes into hibernation.
My T43 beeps just once immediately when the lid is closed and then goes silently into hibernation
I prefer the beep beep beep of the T42 and am trying to get the T43 to do it too.

My T42 has ThinkPad Configuration v. 1.36 (package 1XU503US)
v. 1.36 has a Beeps/Alarms tab with the option to enable "Lid close action beep".
My T43 has ThinkPad Configuration v. 1.55 (package 7JU501WW)
v. 1.55 doesn't have that tab.

My T43 has "Power Manager" v. 1.54 as a separate application. Its "Global Power Settings" tab does not include any option except "Beep when power state changes", like the BIOS option. However, there's a report online here of a Power Manager having a "Beep until Hibernate is complete" option under "global power options". I guess some earlier version of "Power Manager" had what v. 1.54 doesn't have.

Both my T42 and T43 have ThinkPad Power Management Driver v. 1.43.

I recall setting an option on my T42 explicitly to beep until [entering] hibernation is complete. I can't find that option now, but the option in the Beeps/Alarms tab is definitely necessary for it.

Maybe I can find ThinkPad Configuration v. 1.40 and replace v. 1.55 with that.
Maybe I can find an earlier version of Power Manager, and replace v. 1.54 with that.

It's difficult to find earlier versions of ThinkPad drivers -- for example, driverguide.com was useless at finding ThinkPad Configuration 1.40 -- so it would be good to know what to look for. And maybe beep beep beep is hiding somewhere in what's already installed on my T43.

Not sure, but you could try going into BIOS for the beep settings there. F1 on boot.

Steve, thanks for the suggestion but Power Control Beep was already enabled in BIOS.

It is on the second screen of the Battery Maximizer Wizard, in between the two dropdown boxes.

Art Shapiro, thank you thank you.
There it is, where you say, in the T42. The setting is called "Beep until computer enters standby/suspend or hibernation mode".
But my T43 doesn't have the Battery MaxiMiser Wizard. I believe mine has all the latest Lenovo recommended T43 drivers. And there is an equivalent setting in the rat's nest of Lenovo software. Right-click the battery icon near the system tray. Select "Configure InstantResume" in the menu. A window "Advanced Settings for Lid Closed" pops up. Select "Beep till the action is completed."
And now my T43 does beep beep beep.
And now "Configure InstantResume" no longer appears as a menu option!
So my T43 will always do beep beep beep.
