T42 freezes, no respond.

#1 Post by lemmerdeur » Sat Jun 27, 2009 9:50 pm

My t42 froze for the 3rd time in 2 weeks. It is normally on all night on the docking station It happend each time in the morning after no action for 6-7 hours. I have windows XP with no sleep mode on sector. I tried to turn it off with the power button but no respond. I had to take it of the docking station and remove the battery for it to turn off. After replacing the battery and back in the docking station it loaded normally and back to normal for a week or two. Any idea what could be the problem?

Keep your eye out for a spare motherboard.....might not be the issue, but it might be where it's heading...

I wonder if you can use an R51 motherboard in yours. I think so, and they are cheap on Ebay.

Thank you, I will pray. I like my laptop, it has been a very good one. If it dies, I will purchase a newer one and it will be a IBM, these are great machines.

Actually, it should have some value even with a bad motherboard. Just take about $100 off. Or part it out. Battery, optical, RAM, case, LCD etc.

But swapping in a new motherboard is not so bad and would keep your machine running - if that's the issue.

Depending on your LCD resolution an R51 motherboard should work in this. I think. They are cheap !!

Probably sell for under $50:
