Sturdy DIMM Covers for T30

I was wondering if there is a sturdy after-market DIMM cover for the T30. I just saw some of the T23 bottoms and the DIMM covers on that laptop look sturdier than the T30's! If they are why did IBM make such shoddy null-protective DIMM covers for the T30???

Wouldn't a sturdier cover help in preventing RAM slot failure in the T30? I know that flexing is a major contributor also but think I may have read that the constant pressure from the covers would also contribute to RAM Slot failure.

They are of the same thin (stamped) metal as T23 covers. Nothing extra-sturdy about them!

I read somewhere that there were two different covers that could be used. One was supposedly sturdier. This was a while back and I forgot where I saw that info.

There is only one Dimm cover listed in the T30 System Service Parts manual - FRU 46L4774

Actually, IBM redesigned the DIMM cover.

Compare against your factory original DIMM cover. Do you see how the newer version has been restamped to create an extra 1/16" to 1/8" of space between the DIMM(s) and the cover?

I learned about this while I was foolishly attempting to purchase a HD caddy from official IBM/Levono parts. IBM instructed me to purchase a kit, 26R7937, which contains both newly designed DIMM & HDD Cover. I was never able to purchase the HD caddy from IBM, just the black plastic HDD Cover.

Do you see how it is completely flat, where the re-designed cover has a "raised" surface?
