Are the newer X301's shipping with 64Gb SLC drives?
Are the newer X301's shipping with 64Gb SLC drives?
I have an opportunity to purchase an X301 that was built in 6/09. It has the 64Gb SSD. Do you think it will be SLC, or MLC?
Thank you
Thank you

All x300 and the older x301 had slc ssds. The more modern x301 all have mlc ssds.

The X300 I have from 2008/4 had a Samsung 64 GB SLC drive, but after I had it replaced under warranty, I received a Samsung PB22-J MLC drive. Looking at the specifications of the two drives, it seems like a rather good swap.

The slc ssd should outperform the mlc one by any means.

There are actually some X300 shipped with 64GB MLC drives, especially those built approximately after June 2008.

Why should an old SLC SSD outperform a new MLC SSD? If you look at the specifications, the new MLC drive has a read/write of 220/120 MB/sec, while the older SLC drive is 120/80 MB/sec. What makes the SLC drive superior?ssd_thinkpad wrote:The slc ssd should outperform the mlc one by any means.

It's part of the latest Samsung PB22-J MLC lineup. The bigger versions have an even faster write rate of 200 MB/sec

why did you need to replace it under warranty? did the old SLC drives break on you?Esben wrote:The X300 I have from 2008/4 had a Samsung 64 GB SLC drive, but after I had it replaced under warranty, I received a Samsung PB22-J MLC drive.
