SOLVED: W500: Fingerprint and boot-time HDD Password

#1 Post by Hackster » Wed Jul 08, 2009 7:34 am

Hi, all,

I had my W500 set up with both Power-on and HDD passwords. The passwords are the same, and when I type in the power-on password, the password also automatically applied to the HDD password prompt, and the machine boots up.

Yesterday I decided to enable fingerpint to be used for power-on (using Lenovo Fingerpring Software). I checked the checkbox that said "Use fingerprint scan instead of poer-on and hard-drive passwords", and checked the checkboxes above the fingers I wanted used in power-on authentication.

The problem is that the fingerprint only seems to bypass power-on password, not the HDD password. I still get prompted for HDD password, which kind of defeats the whole purpose of enabling boot-time fingerprint in the first place.

EDIT: SOLUTION from a member on another forum:

Presumably, because there is more than one hard drive password that can be set (master and user), it is necessary to enter the hard drive password once for each registered fingerprint, in order to associate the correct password with the fingerprint. After the HDD password is entered once, it is not required on the subsequent swipes of the same fingerprint.
