Power adapter only work for few seconds

#1 Post by philstreet » Thu Jul 09, 2009 5:29 pm

I recently noticed that my R52 was running from the battery even though the power adapter was plugged in. I un-plugged the power from the back of the R52 and then plugged it back in but nothing happened.

If I un-plug the power-cord from the power-pack (adapter) and then plug it back in the R52 beeps (to say it is receiving power) but then a few seconds later it beeps again (to indicate that it is no longer powered). Each time I re-plug the power-cord into the power-pack the laptop receives power for a few seconds.

Does anyone know what the issue may be? I thought it might be the power-pack and considered buying a replacement but wanted to check first as they cost £50 each in the UK.

Regards

Phil

I think you are talking about the AC end. What happens (and happened to me) is that the adapter has a little board with two male prongs inside the adapter that connect to the cord. The wires connecting the little board to the inside of the adapter break. Then no connection and no power. Correct IBM adapters are cheap enough new and even cheaper here from reputable sellers. Just replace the adapter.
