T30 a zombie now????

#1 Post by emeraldgirl08 » Thu Jul 09, 2009 10:20 pm

Applied artic silver to my cpu. I'm pretty darn sure I followed all directions appropriately. When I was done I booted up the T30 about fifteen minutes after the operation.

I get no hard driive activity. I tried changing booting order. From the linux in my ultrabay to using a liveCD to boot into anything but a no go.

I get two erros. One for the wireless card I have the fix for if I can get the CD rom to work. The other error was for the CMOS time which i've fixed. Is there anything else in BIOS I need to fix? Do I need to tear open the T30 again??!!!

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

If the CMOS battery was replaced, I'd go back into the BIOS and load all of the defaults. This should be available under the "Startup" menu. I'd also check the boot order menu and see if BIOS detects the hard drive (noted by a "+" sign in front of the hard drive entry).

I got it started again :D

I had to exchange the wireless cards because of the error I was getting. It then started up. Now all I have to do is run the "no-1802" boot-up disk again. I'm breathing a major sigh of relief here Ray!

I do have a question. How soon will the results of the new thermal compound show? Does it need to be "broken in?" Thanks for responding!

My understanding is that the effects of the thermal compound won't be noticed right away. It might take a couple of days and/or several power up-power down cycles. As long as you didn't overdo it by putting a toothbrush portion on top of the CPU (best results usually come from an application the size of a single grain of rice), then I wouldn't worry too much about it.
