HDDLife says to replace my T43 HD
HDDLife says to replace my T43 HD
I acquired a refurbished T43 4 months ago. I just ran HDDLife check on the hard drive, a 30GB HTS541040G9AT00. The result was sirens and flashing warnings. Overall a 40% result. Many things looked good (90-100%), but throughput is at 40% and seek time at 51%. It did report Power On Hours: 7524 Anyone know how reliable this test is and if I should seriously be shopping for a new drive?
Re: HDDLife says to replace my T43 HD
"Users beware: HDDlife wasn't a very reliable tool for monitoring hard drive health, and its primary purpose seems to be to get you to upgrade to a paid version."

Thanks harryc. I was just over there checking out Hitachi's drive fitness test as it happens. Appreciate the input.
Re: HDDLife says to replace my T43 HD
Passed DFT with no problem so I guess all is OK. What got me started was a coupla days ago the system boot slowly and everything was running like molasses. This after the laptop was in my truck overnight and was cold. (~50 degrees) Don't know if that had anything to do with it or it was just a windows anomaly. At any rate, the machine usually seems to run nice and quickly for my purposes.

I've had a ThinkPad fail to power up after -20 deg F, but in a few minutes at room temp everything was fine. No speed problems after that "cold start".bonjonno wrote:Passed DFT with no problem so I guess all is OK. I don't know if there is a thermister on the mobo that limits the machines to running within a specified temp range. Just a guess.
