Will this HDD fit my t43 with no issues?

#1 Post by Pawelek » Fri Jul 10, 2009 10:46 am

I've found an auction http://www.allegro.pl/item682593704_fuj ... wy_gw.html where some guy is selling Fujitsu MHV2120AH 120GB. So far I'm intersted in buying this hdd but still I have some doubts about compatibility with my t43. I really do not want to encounter well known 2010 error and APS problems. Can you tell me if this stuff can go right with my notebook? Or maybe I should start looking for some completely diffrent hdds. 160GB solutions are also appreciated :D Last thing is RPM. At present I have 4200RPM 60GB Fujitsu (werid one but works fine). Will 5400 or 7200 give me an extra speed impact. My notebook model is 2669CTO

Thanks in advance

Other than getting a Lenovo replacement or other CRU/FRU drives, there are no absolute guarantee that you will not get a 2010 warning at boot time. Fujitsu drives has the best chance of not getting this warning and this could be one of them. I have a retail MHV2120AH running in a R52 now and it doesn't trigger the 2010 warning.

There are no non-"2010" 160GB solution that I know of. I have several 160GB, 250GB WD running in T43s and they work fine.

When I was using a T43 as my primary laptop, I used a 160GB Hitachi drive (7200 RPM) that worked with a firmware flash.

Ok. So which particular hdd models and capacities would you recommend? WD or Seagate (used only in desktops so far) or maybe Hitachi...I'm must admit I'm a little bit confused :(

If it isn't a real IBM part, it wilii give the 2010 error unless you can flash the firmware. I believe most Fujitsu drives can be flashed, some of the Hitachi drives and a few of the Toshiba ones.

A Fujitsu MHV2120AH (and other the other size drives in this series) won't give the 2010 error, guaranteed, no need to flash the firmware. Because of this, they are expensive as most sellers know what they have, I've seen the 120gb version listed at $250 online. If you see someone who has them listed for less than $100 or so (like JAZ Technologies), it's usually because they don't have them at all and will try to sell you something else.
