I took the T30 on the road with me this past weekend and the problem has not been corrected. My problematic front slot is still a problem

Bought my T30 used. Memory slot problem showed up about a year and a half later.
My solder experience is limited to soldering wires together every now and then.

I was nervous doing my own repair, but did not feel like mailing it out, and did not find a local shop to do it. But wanted more that 1GB in order to run a virtual machine.

The solder iron was a radio shack 40 watt pencil type. I took the tip and ground it to look like a flat blade screwdriver tip ( image taken from previous post).

The flux was GC Electronics Part 10-4202 Liquid Solder Flux. Chose it because it came with a small brush in the bottle.

Thought I knew about where to apply the heat this video left no doubt the contact on the end shows the most movement and obviously has a bad solder connection.

Did not know and could not see exactly which joints were loose so just decided to re-flow the solder on the end 10 pins on the bad slot.

Got the magnifying glass out and got the solder iron heated up, tined the tip of the iron and removed all the excess solder, just wanted to re-flow the solder that is there. Nice thing about the tip being shaped like screwdriver blade is I could heat up 4-5 joints at once.

I applied flux sparingly. Then carefully placed the solder iron tip on the end joints, counted to 5 and removed the tip. Repeated the process until I had reheated end 5-10 pins on the bad slot.

That was about 6 months ago and I'm happy to say both slots are working. I have a 1GB PC2700 stick in one and a 512MB stick in the other.

Louie, thanks for posting that video. I see I've been attempting to repair the wrong area. I'll have to go back again and see if I can visually identify the problem pins on mine.
