T61 with XP and no Audio

#1 Post by evereti » Sat Jul 11, 2009 2:30 am

Hi
Sorry if this has been covered before but I couldn't find this problem in the other topics.

I have a T61 type 7659-AB8. I acquired it without hard drive and op sys. I installed XP Pro SP2 and all is well (so far) except for the audio. I have tried installing the driver from the lenovo site, tried using Windows Update and no joy. In the process I got to SP3.

I did some searching and found out about UAA Bus Driver (KB888111). As this doesn't work in SP3, I uninstalled SP3, installed UAA and redid the Soundmax driver.

All installed OK, Soundmax says its installed OK, all volumes are on max BUT no sound at all, no beeps, clicks, XP start up tune, nothing.

The only thing wrong in Device Manager is that I have three yellow ??? called "Base System Device" which I cannot get rid of.

Details from Device Manager of these three yellow ??? are:

PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&SUBSYS_20CA17AA&REV_11\4&3B&3A03B5&0&04F0

PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&SUBSYS_20C917AA&REV_11\4&3B&3A03B5&0&04F0

PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0852&SUBSYS_20CB17AA&REV_11\4&3B&3A03B5&0&04F0

I hope I typed these correctly.

Not sure if these three problems are connected to the sound.

There seems to be lots on the web about sound and XP on the T61 but nothing seems to work for me.

Hope someone can help

Cheers :o

Yes, ThinkVantage... try it, maybe you have wrong drivers, or just find it manually for XP at the site.
seems to be a driver problem... have you installed this one:

Hi

I have been to the Lenovo site and downloaded the level of driver you recommended. I unistalled Sounmax, installed kb888111 (UAA pre requisite), installed the Soundmax driver (7ka114ww), all went well with no errors and I checked the level installed afterwards and it was 5520 as per the install instructions.

But still no audio at all.

Any other ideas anyone?

Cheers

Well I don't believe it....fixed it myself.

I decided to instal every thinkpad driver from the site, started with the driver for the k/b hotkeys, and I HAVE SOUND.

The Hotkeys include mute and volume control so it seems to have some logic.

Cheers
