T41p screen replaced then won`t start.
Hello, I have a IBM T41P 2373-220 with a broken Samsung SXGA screen (fru 11p8348). I got from a friend a Sharp UXGA (this is what is written on it : lq141u1lho2 24w00993b dp/n 05d366c/o jp|rev a02) that he guaranteed that it will work. The laptop was on suspend for about 1 week until i received the new screen. I did the switch, and now when I try to power it on it will start for 3-4 secs and then shutdown only working again after I unplug and plug again the power supply.
I took the new screen out, and it does the same thing.
When I boot it up, the numlock / scrolllock keys will light up and as soon as they go dark, one second later the laptop stops.
edit : if i remove all the ram it will start beeping but stay on.

Re: T41p screen replaced then won`t start.
Ok, here are some updates.
I removed the UXGA screen and did a bios reset and the laptop worked for 2 weeks on a external display. I ordered a new IBM XGA screen that I got with the cover/inverter/etc included so I only had to pop the cable in the motherboard. I put the new display and the same problem pops up again: it will start for 3-4 seconds and then shutdown without powering back until I unplug the power cable (no battery). If I do a bios reset or use fn+f7 to change to a external display, it will boot up fine.
Any suggestions ?

I am guessing that there is an issue with the power controller circuit or something could be taking up too much power. You could try removing the inverter board and see if that helps. Even if it does, I'm afraid that means that the problem is likely on the motherboard.

did another test, booted in windows from an external monitor then went to display adapter drivers and tried to activate the LCD. The second I pressed apply it shut down and didn`t want to start until i unpluged the power cord.
Oh, and when I plug the power cord in the laptop I hear a buzzing sound that I think it comes from the inverter.

It does seem to me that you have a problem with the display taking too much power and then the system shuts down. The issue could be with the inverter, the LCD ribbon cable, the LCD itself or the motherboard. Given that you think the inverter is making some noise, I'd start with that first.
We're talking about the replacement XGA lid assembly (LCD panel, inverter, cable) still giving you a problem, correct? And the problem started when you installed the UXGA screen? What type of ribbon cable did you use when you installed the UXGA panel? I ask since each type of panel is supposed to be used with its own unique cable. Also, when the system had the SXGA+ panel, did it work correctly?

Re: T41p screen replaced then won`t start.
Are you using the Sxga inverter with tthe uxga? That may be the problem as well as requiring compatible cable the the uxga.

Non-IBM/Lenovo panels may have different pinouts that may not work or even blow a fuse in the worst case. Sharp was never a supplier to the T4x series.

Re: T41p screen replaced then won`t start.
A friend managed to fix it for me in the end. I did blow a fuse (near the lvds connector) but he replaced it and everything worked fine.
Re: T41p screen replaced then won`t start.
Interesting!
I've got the same problem with a t43p: it starts for a few seconds and then shuts down.
If the t43p is connected only with external monitor works fine: i think the problem is on motherboard and not in the panel lcd.
Suggesting?

My best advice is search the forum for the pdf with all the fusses on the mb and check them and if you don`t have the skills, ask a friend like I did
