Help Me Cut the Bulk

#1 Post by eamonbriggs08 » Wed Jul 15, 2009 6:17 pm

I received my T400s yesterday, and it is one slick machine. For the most part, I couldn't be happier.

I just have one concern. I purchased a 128 GB SSD, thinking it would give me more than enough space. I only needed to make minor sacrifices to avoid filling the 40 GB hard drive on my T41 over the last 4 years.

However, when my T400s arrived with Windows Vista Business pre-installed, 45 GB of space was already gone (55 GB after installing Windows 7 RC). Does anyone have any advice on how to cut down on this bulk? I'm just baffled as to how I could have nearly half my hard drive gone without installing a single program or saving a single file?!

Open a command prompt and type: vssadmin list shadowstorage and see what it tells you.

I bet there are some recovery partitions and suchlike, which you could make into dvd's or move to an external drive.

Is there a link with instructions how to backup that hidden pre-install partition? My T400s came with backup DVDR for Vista and all the drivers, but I ordered it with XPP downgrade which got installed at Lenovo prior to shipment. I know I have 5GB hidden partition with XPP backup, just didn't get around reading instructions or looking for a link how to burn that back up. Any help?
