Buy by model number

#1 Post by jimmm33 » Sat Feb 05, 2005 11:49 pm

I'm about to buy a T42 after lurking in these forums for months. From Tabook.pdf I found the 2373-9xu that I want but I can't find where to buy based on this number on the IBM website. I'm looking to buy a 14 inch SXGA LCD with the 9600 Radeon but I can't configure it that way with "build your own".

You'll have to call IBM to order that particular model, or any other model that is in the tabook that isn't available online. I'm not sure why they do this, but that's the way they do it. You could call IBM, or you could see what Bill could get you.....

If you want to order from IBM you can call them directly. Otherwise you have plenty of choices

try Sort by availability

The default setting at ibm.com doesn't show many models with delayed availability like the 23739xu you're looking for. To find it, and others with shipping delays, change the setting for Sort this chart to Sort by availabilty which displays in stock models followed by models with a shipping delay.

I found the T42 23739xu on the IBM Visa discount site http://www.ibm.com/businesscenter/visa for $1,934.71, regular Web Price $2,449.00, with a 2 week wait.

Actually, I've discovered that the IBM BusinessCenter sites list most, if not all, models as available for purchase on-line. I'm not sure why, but for whatever reason, if you go through one of the following discount links, the site lists TONS of models that aren't available for purchase on the normal IBM Shop site OR on EPP/SPP. Fortunately for you, this includes the 2373-9XU!

No doubt...but it is real hard to ignore the 2379DXU for $1799 on the Mastercard site.

I have one of them(about 3 weeks now) and I cannot find a single thing wrong with it...[censored] fast drive(7200RPM 60G) Rad9600 video, 512M and a very very nice screen(1400 * 1050).

Battery life is somewhat ompromised compared to my 23733uu 14" SXGA+ unit, but hey, it is brigher and bigger for my aging eyes!

For what it's worth

Education site seems to display greatest number of models

#8 Post by Esteban » Tue Feb 08, 2005 8:45 am

IBM's education web site for Thinkpads seems to be the one that display the greatest number of models when you set it to
Show only:all Products and Sort list by: Product code

The education site also shows number of units in stock or availability by days for each model.

http://www.ibm.com/education/us

On 02/08/05 it showed 19 pages of thinkpads.

A sweet looking model I learned about in the X forum is the T42 2373-M3U. It seems like a highly upgraded T42 2378-FVU. The regular IBM Web price is $2,369 and the discounted Edu price is $1,895.20. (education prices seem be matched by businesscenter prices) Seems very nice for the discounted price. Currently shows shipping within ten days.

- IBM ThinkPad T42 2373
- Pentium M 745 1.8 GHz
- RAM 512 MB
- HD 60 GB (seems to be 7200 rpm)
- CD-RW / DVD
- Mdm
- LAN EN, Fast EN, Gigabit EN, Bluetooth, 802.11b, 802.11g
- Centrino
- Win XP Pro
- 14.1" TFT SXGA+ (1400 x 1050)
(3 year warantee if I read it right-Esteban)

and also, if you can get epp pricing, 2373-M3U (t42) is a better choice then FVU/DXU, and if the tabook is correct, it has a 7200rpm drive in it (the ibm website lists it with 5400rpm)

2373-M3U: epp price: $1572, 14" 1400x1050, 3years, 6 cell, 512mb, ati 9600, intel b/g, 60GB 7200rpm < that was my winner on the t42 front

I think I am going to buy from Bill but I was wondering what the advantages are. From the main page it seems he has some nice prices and I would like to support these forums since they have helped me so much.

I think I read here that IBM will give you 30 days to return for any reason. Could I still do that if I got a model with a defect?

What are the advantages of buying from Bill?
