firegl gpu helping 3d apps?

just a quick question

a friend of mine told me that those firegl drivers most likely are able to help your cad/3d programs, while regular r9600/x300 drivers would not, and all your 3dstudio can use is your CPU

is that so? sounds like a logical explanation to me...

No. That is not true at all.

The regular Radeon drivers have acceleration for both OpenGL and Direct3D. You can check advanced display properties in Windows and confirm this.

The FireGL's drivers are more optimized towards OpenGL and stability, whereas the standard drivers are optimized more for speed and Direct3D.

Did you mean 'FireGL driver'? I have no idea... Somebody with a Radeon 9600 equipped ThinkPad could probably tell you.

not sure if all this is required at all, or how this can be done, because in notebooks typically the video bios also resides in the main bios itself.

so that friend of mine was right, firegl driver/firmware does help the CAD/3D applications (although i'm not quite sure how do they differ from opengl games)
