How do you guys calibrate your LCD monitor?

I noticed that my display kinda looked "washed out"(I have a T42p) compared to other students in my class. So I started to play around with the Gamma settings, etc. Now my question: What would you guys recommend to calibrate the monitor to make the colors more vivid?
