i just got invited to Google voice but i am not in currently in the states so i can't take advantage of it... anyway to cheat my IP address so that it looks like i am in the U.S?

It's called a proxy. There are a ton of options ranging from free websites that "frame" the site you want to go to, to private, pay per month VPN solutions. A search for "free proxy" on google will probably help you.

there was an easier way by using Tor. Anybody in here uses Tor? I need some help setting it up.

Proxies tend to be slow and unreliable. If you really want to use google voice a paid VPN service is really the only way to go. Otherwise just wait until your back stateside.

well i got myself hotshield which does the job of a proxy and i can now access google voice. all i have to do now is get a US phone number from IPKall. after I do that my family in the states will be able to call me under my new US phone number which will get forwarded here to dominica. that way they will not pay a $1.50 per minute but a local phone fee. hopefully this will work

What's wrong with Skype?
We're (video)calling from the US to our friends/family (who also have Skype) all over Europe for free.

what's wrong with skype

it does not give me a free phone number and does not have call forwarding. it does not translate my voicemail.

Skype do have call forwarding, but it is not free. It does also have voicemail, which, of course, not free either... What do you need translation of your voicemail for?

yeah but it only forwads skype number to another phone. i need to forward a non skype phone number to my cell phone number.
i need voicemail translation because i never check my voicemail and my parents don't know how to text message.
