internal INTEL Wlan sooo SLOW ... WHY???

#1 Post by babha » Fri Jul 24, 2009 2:53 am

Hello again!
This time iM wondering, how it can be that the built in Wlan-unit is producing such slow connections?? Probably some setting-problem (firewall)?
Additionally i use a FRITZ-Wlan-USB-Stick. That immediatly works great - normal connection speed, without changing anything at any setting.
Just having 2 USB-ports and considering that the internal Wlan-unit seems to have better connection (but again: SLOW internet) it would be great, to use that one instead of the stick (my former Notebook didnt have Wlan built in).
Any ideas/suggestions?
greetings
Manfred

It would help if you could provide more information, such as:
  • What machine and model you are using?
    What OS is installed?
What results do other people's (friends or neighbours) machines get?

Totally agree - sorry - stupid me ...

my notebook: T43 INTEL PM 750 1.86GHz 2668-82G

Integrated Wlan-unit connects quickly and has a very good quality connection to the "modem" ... but the speed of Internet is about 2KB/sec. If i use my FRITZ-USB-stick everything is easy too, but Internet has about 200 KB/sec (which is "normal" here ..)
As T43 only offers 2 USB-ports i rather dont want to "loose" 1 to Wlan, which is available inside the computer anyway. And i cant understand, WHAT it is/can be! Wrong settings? But where?
Ideas?

Things to try:

1.Test the wlan card
Use the bootable CD version of PC Doctor.
Click on the .exe file to extract the .iso.
Download and install this program which makes it simple to burn the .iso onto a cd.
Boot the T43 from CD (press F12 and select CD) and run the PC Doctor tests, especially for the wlan.

2. Check the two internal aerials are connected to the wlan card.
Remove the front palmrest and check the grey and black aerial wires are properly fitted to the wlan card connectors.

3. Remove all encryption.
Temporarily remove all wlan encryption from the card and router and check with an open (no encryption) wi fi connection.

4. Change the wylan connection frequency.
In the router, change the frequency to a completely different one. It could be that the frequency you're on has interference.

5. Do a router reset.
On the router do a reset back to factory defaults and set it up again.

These are in no particular order - just as they came into my head, so do the easiest ones first.

Go to Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, Network Adapters and see if you have Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection. If you do, check the properties and try updating the drivers. If you don't have Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection then go to Lenovo's website and download it.
