T400 - single vs dual DIMM - Is the RAM dual channel?

#1 Post by shizat63 » Sun Jul 26, 2009 12:27 pm

Would splitting the RAM to fill both banks be faster? (2GB + 2GB vs. 4GB + empty)

Ie. is the motherboard dual channel?

Hi. In a word, yes it is dual channel. Whether the speed increase is noticeable is debatable though. I would say that it mostly helps with graphics applications and games if you have integrated graphics, since both the CPU and integrated GPU are then much more memory starved.

Splitting the ram has no effect. Yes it's dual channel, and if you _do_ use two memory modules they must be the exact same spec, if not it will not operate in the dual channel mode.

Cheers...
