Need basic T30 wireless help

#1 Post by fuzzmaster » Mon Jul 27, 2009 11:28 am

I think the wireless modem in my T30 is going bad. It keeps dropping the connection and can no longer find the network connection, but if I move it closer to the wireless modem, it picks it up again. I use the T30 upstairs and the modem is downstairs. I'm wondering how to upgrade the wireless on the T30. I got it used, so I'm not entirely sure what it has inside. There is nothing in the expansion slot on the side. Can I just buy a network card from Newegg and add it to the slot or do I have to open it up and remove the old one? Or would it just be integrated into the motherboard?

I'm looking at this as a possible solution:

Would this work?

Thanks!

Probably would work fine. Just be sure to disable the old, built in adapter in your network connections so you don't have both running at the same time.

Its probably not the wireless modem (network card)
When was the last time you reset you Wireless Modem
The modem is what the cable or telephone line plugs into?
Typically if its a couple of years old, they tend to loose strength.
Thats a personal observation, mind you.
Shutting them down, letting them cool off and then restarting them should get you full strenght back for a little while anyway.
As it warms back up you will notice a drop off.
Swapping the Wireless network card is very, very easy.
I would not stick a PCI card in the side
If it turns out to be the Wireless Card most people here like the Atheros Based cards

You need the Mini PCI like this one

The last two I purchased were actually for a Toshiba, using the Atheros drivers, both do a great job
