When password blank for the administartor account doesn't work (very common when trying to use Windows Recovery Console), it's because the PC vendors use different mechanisms to build the OEM operating systems ... a blank / null entry doesn't always look the same.

I just used these links yesterday to download and burn an .iso which I then booted with to re-write the blank/null administrator password for an XP system. Windows Recovery Console then accepted my blank/null and allowed me to run the FIXMBR which I needed to do.
