Real World perfomance of Ultrabay Slim batt?

#1 Post by Skywing » Mon Feb 07, 2005 9:37 am

I just picked up an ultrabay slim batt for a steal off ebay ($50), and was just curious as to what kinda extra batt life ill get out of it, i currently get about 7 hours w/ the 9 cell in my T42 and from quick gathering of info im reading that the ultrabay gives an extra 2.5-3 hours, is this true?

Is the 9-cell the one that sticks out?

Good buy!

For the record, I expect a solid 7.5 to 8 hours of runtime with the 9 cell battery and the Ultrabay battery in my T40 (1.5GHz, 1.5GB RAM, 7K60 HD, WiFi).

If I tweak everything to maximize runtime, I can usually squeek 9 hours or even 9.5 hours out of that combination, but 7.5 hours is what I depend on.

I have the T42 2379R9U with the 9 cell battery and the UltraBay slim battery. I get around 7 hours uptime with both batteries. Is the UltraBay battery you purchased new and never used? That will also affect battery life.

how's that even possible? do you turn you screen brightness to 0? I have a 9cell with 23% wear and I can barely get 6hours if I'm lucky.

Easy, I can count on my 9 cell for approx. 5.5 to 6 hours and my Ultrabay battery for 2 to 2.5 hours.

How many WH are you getting out of your 9 cell? If you've already lost ~25% of the battery's capacity and it's less than a year old, you should give IBM a call and petition for a new one!

Yes, to really get the MAX out of both batteries I have to have the screen dimmed way down, the WiFi turned off and not be accessing the HD more than once an hour or so to save whatever I'm working on. Plus, with the CPU set to adaptive, the fan hardly ever runs while I'm simply wordsmithing something.

Regards,

James

All of these numbers are going to continue to decline of course as these batteries age, but right now I've got all fresh ones.
