Swappable LCD's for T30

#1 Post by emeraldgirl08 » Fri Jul 31, 2009 10:06 am

I was thinking of my T30.

I know the screen won't last forever so which LCD's are recommended?

I have a 14" screen and ATI 16mb VRAM.

Could I use LCD's from other models???

Have checked the Lenovo site and found there are two manufacturers for 14" LCD's.

Samsung and LG.

There are two resolutions. XGA and SXGA.

Two different NITS- 150 and 200.

Obviously I'd like a bright 200. I'm not sure about swapping an XGA with an SXGA. I prefer high-res and bright so I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations about either brand?

You'll have a hard time finding an SXGA+ LCD for a T30, and if you do, it'll be very expensive!
I have looked for alternative LCDs for a T30 (like Dell or HP or whatever), but never found any.
The inverters are the same for XGA and SXGA+, but in different versions for 150nit and 200nit (see HMM).
You'd also need a different LCD cable for XGA and for SXGA+ (again, see HMM).

I have 2 of the SXGA LCDs
My wife loves hers, I hate the NOS (New Old Stock) I picked up from RBS
I upgraded it to Blue Tooth and hate that too!
I use the laptop about twice a month, just to update the Anti Vi and Windblows
Other than that it sits

I find the screen soft focused at the higher resolutions for reading/surfing
Dont get me wrong it is gorgeous for photos/movies and the like

My 2 cents worth
By the way the whole laptop is for sale in the Market Place forum

There are more:
- IDTech (can't find P/N at the moment) and
- Hitachi P/N 11P8292, FRU 11P8297, Hitachi # TX36D37VC1CAA

Okay let me put it this way.

If I buy a Thinkpad for parts off of Fleabay- LCD included. Which types of Thinkpads can I swap screens with?

Would a T23 screen work? An R40?

Cost is extremely important as I don't have very much money! I also would like to know if swapping panels would be easy?

I know just taking the whole top off (LCD in place) and swapping would be the easiest and obvious choice so that's what I'd prefer.

For a T30 your only option is another T30.
