Replacing my X61s

#1 Post by DWSpiro » Sat Aug 01, 2009 3:22 pm

Hi all. I wanted to post this here since presumably most of you own X6s. I'm 2 years into my X61s and thinking that it may soon be time to replace/upgrade. I'm on my 4th or 5th Thinkpad, and around the 3 year mark, I find it's time to move up.

Since I haven't kept up with all the models since then, any recommendations on what is now the smallest Thinkpads out there with comparable features? While I initially bemoaned losing an internal DVD, I have survived with an external and/or dock. But if I could have one back, that would be great.

As a frequent traveller, the smaller the better as far as I'm concerned. I'm a devotee of the trackpoint and have no use for a touchpad. Small print doesn't bother me. A webcam might be nice rather than clipping one on when necessary.

Thanks, in advance, for your recommendations!
David

Oh, let me add that I really want to keep with a SATA drive rather than any of these puny little solid state things. I have a 500GB in there now, and I'm already starting to run out of space.... ;-)

The equivelent to yours would be the x200s, which has both spinning and solid state drives avalible to it. It only has a trackpoint. if you want more power in a similar package, x200, and if you decide you want a dvd drive intergrated X300, but the X300 only has options for SSDs - 64 or 128. the x300 has ultranav - touchpad and trackpoint. The easiest way to figure out features is to go on the lenovo website and configure diffrent systems the way you want them to be.

I would think the regular X200 would be more akin to you X61, though the X200s is a bit lighter and does have the WXGA+ if you prefer.

I have yet to own a thinkpad, but I have done much research and I would agree with what has been said that the X200 would be the optimal choice. If I were in a position to be able to afford a brand new laptop, that is most likely what I would go for.

PS: I'll buy your x61s :p
