Extending 3 year warn to 5 years on T60
Hi gang:
The 3 eassy serv. warn. on my T60 expires on August 25th and I would like to extend it for an additional 2 years. I know I could call Lenovo directly, however, from my understanding they charge $199.00. I was told there are several companies that offter the same warn. for less. Could anyone direct me on who to contact.
I did come across one site that offers this coverage for $148.10 Could anyone tell me if they have purchased from this particular place?

Call Lenovo directly and haggle with the rep.
I've done it in June and got the warranty extended for $160 + tax.

Re: Extending 3 year warn to 5 years on T60
Hi again:
I just got off the phone with Lenovo. Since my T60 originally came with a 3 year Easy Serv, and it has not yeat expired, Lenovo offered me two additional years and upgraded it to IN HOME for $79.00. + Tax. = $84.53.
The way it was explained to me was, since my unit came with a three year warn. at time of sale, another words, It didn't come with a 1 year and then upgraded at the time of sale, they are offering me a one time warn. upgrade.
I questioned him on this and the salesman checked with his supervisor...
So, I was able to get the two year in home for $84.10
I was not aware of this policy until today.....

Re: Extending 3 year warn to 5 years on T60
Back again:
I only got an order number thus far. Nothing by email from Lenovo, however, they did already hit up my credit card.
I called back to confirm the price of $79.00 for two years with In Home Coverage.
They again confirmed the price on my particular unit since it originally came standard with the 3 year warn. If this ThinkPad would have come with a 1 year warn at time of purchase and then upgraded at the time of sale to the 3 year, then I would not qulify for the special offer that was given to me.
Anyhow, this is all new to me...... Hopefully Lenovo will come through and this will show up when I check in a few days....
Beat to one and all.

Re: Extending 3 year warn to 5 years on T60
You're hosed. They sold you an "upgrade" from a 3 year depot warranty to a 2 year on-site warranty. NOT a 2 year extension. See this link --> http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... D-WSU.html Search for the part number you were sold --> 41C9175. You upgraded your expired warranty and shaved off a year, too!
Call them back and see if they will honor the price for part number 45K6025, which is a 3 year depot to a 5 year depot warranty extension. That adds 2 more years. They made the mistake.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Re: Extending 3 year warn to 5 years on T60
My 3 year waranty is over as of the 25th of this month. So, how did I get hosed. I got 2 more years which gives me a 5 year waranty. They added On-site as well.underclocker wrote:You're hosed. I just got off the phone with Lenovo and they have verified that my 3 year waranty expires on 8-25-2009. Begining on 8-26-2009 and throught 8-25-2011, I will have a 2 year ON SITE waranty. They went to the supervisor and it was confirmed. I was given this UPGRADE because I'm NOT buying a upgrade or POST waranty. My T60 came STOCK with a 3 year waranty from jump street. These are the facts as explained to me from Lenovo. They have sent me a email confirmation and the added two years does in fact begin the day after my original waranty expires. I don't know what else to say.
Maybe you can locate someone on this group who has a full understanding of how the NUMEROUS warranties work.
Also, 45K6025, if you look does NOT match my model number 2623.

Someone there definitely made a mistake, the question is whether they will catch it or let it slip, and whether the customer will enjoy it.

Re: Extending 3 year warn to 5 years on T60
I don't understand a lot of what Lenovo does, but my unit is an older model T60,
with the IBM logo. It came with 3 years when I purchased it. If you notice now days ALL lenovo ThinkPads come with one year. You have to purchase an upgrade at time of purchase to get more then the 1 year.
Since my unit came packaged with 3 years, this is why I was offered this deal for $79.00 bucks. I am not complaining..... I too was shocked and called Lenovo 4 times to confirm this deal. The sales rep put two supervisors on the phone and they both confirmed it.
This evening I got my confirmation email and my creditcard was charged a total of $84.53.
Maybe someone in our group understands this waranty business better then I. There are many people on this group who should answer in on this issue, who may understand what I've been trying to expalin from day one.
I guess I could call Lenovo and tell them that they are wrong because the ThinkPad User group that I belong to say the waranty and price are wrong, so please charge me more $$$. Or, I can take the word of two salesman and two supervisors that I spoke with.... Humm

Re: Extending 3 year warn to 5 years on T60
It is not quite true. Only models purchased and customized directly from Lenovo's site come with one year basic warranty (to make the base price as low as possible). Many preconfigured models sold in the US and world wide still come with 3-year base warranties.Truthfinder wrote:If you notice now days ALL lenovo ThinkPads come with one year. Perhaps they changed their policies, or perhaps both of them really have no idea how these things are supposed to work (even though it's hard to believe). But in any case, if your warranty gets updated in the system to last till 2011, it's all that matters.Truthfinder wrote:Since my unit came packaged with 3 years, this is why I was offered this deal for $79.00 bucks. Re: Extending 3 year warn to 5 years on T60
I truly hope the warranty division is that mixed up, it will help all of us. Who wouldn't upgrade a machine from 3 to 5 years, with the last 2 being on-site, for $79?
I have a loaded T60p with six months warranty remaining just itching for an upgrade. Keep us posted and good luck.
Also...
Who would consider a 3 year depot warranty to a 2 year on-site warranty an upgrade? Corporate buyers or corporate leased equipment. Many corporations have 2 year cycles for their laptops, so 2 years is all that is needed.

Also...
This is just an omission from the warranty upgrade table, your model would fall into the same group as other T60 models that came with 3 year depot warranties, like type 2007, etc. This also explains why the "warranty experts" keep telling you that 41C9175 is correct. The 3 year depot to 2 year on-stie is the only upgrade listed for the 2623 (again, just an omission, there are several upgrade options).Truthfinder wrote:Also, 45K6025, if you look does NOT match my model number 2623.

Re: Extending 3 year warn to 5 years on T60
All this talk of warranties has spurred my interest.
A call to Lenovo produced the exact same results as Steve. I now have extended the three year warranty for my T60p for another two years of onsite service for the princely sum of $79 plus tax. Of course if there is a mistake I will let everyone know. The part number I was quoted is the same as Steve's.
I have called before and upgraded warranties before. The last time was in February of 2008. I extended the warranty on a T41 which had a 3 year warranty. I added onsite and it was $329.
If you have any thought at all of extending the warranty I suggest making the call now. You never know what tomorrow will bring.

It has to be a loophole/mistake...but if Lenovo insists, why not?! Better yet, why not grab it for $70.77 shipped?

(Better yet, tell the Lenovo rep. you prefer the less expensive 2 year depot extension, how much for that?!)

Thanks for getting in on this. I was begining to think it was me who was going crazy. I just could not get anyone to understand or believe that I just upgraded my 3 year warn which will expire in 20 days, to two more years of on site for just $79.00 bucks.....
I have already paid for it and recieved my email confirmation.....
I'm also glad you got in on this. I hope this was helpful to the group......

Any follow up on this? Does the on-line Lenovo warranty lookup reflect the warranty upgrades?

So yes, in the end, like we all suspected Lenovo did screw up. No way that price / part number were right.
However, they compensated him for their own mistakes (as they should have).
Regarding CostCentral - I think some folks here used them in the past successfully. A friend of mine also shopped with them, even though he did not buy warranties, but a laptop. Also no problems whatsoever.
Their prices are always better than what Lenovo initially quotes. Experience shows that when you call and talk to the Lenovo reps on the phone, they sometimes have better deals.
The simplest way would be to call them and say that you are interested in this extension, quote them the price you can get on CostCentral, and ask if they can offer you something better. It's quite possible they will compete.

Can I simply swap out my T5500 CPU in my 1953CTO T60 with a T5600? Or my T2400 core duo in my 2623D6U T60?
