R61i (8932-FDG) CPU clock problem

#1 Post by koso » Sun Aug 02, 2009 2:01 pm

Hello,

I am using R61i with windows XP, ThinkPad Power Management driver v1.53 and Power Manager v1.6.
Power Manager is configured to use adaptive CPU clock when using AC power.

In standard situation (battery in the slot and notebook conected to AC) is speedstep working as one would expect. Problems starts, when battery is not present. In that situation, CPU clock is NOT adjusted according to system load = CPU clock is frozen at the lowest frequency. It seems, that Power Manager is not using profile setting when no battery is present.

Is there any known solution to this problem? I am able to change CPU clock using 3rd party software, but i would rather use some tweak for thinkpad software.

thanks for replies

Use a 90W power adapter or leave the battery in.

Newer Thinkpads are locked to lowest CPU multiplier when the 65W adapter is used and no battery is present, to prevent overcharging the power adapter. When a battery is present, it can be used as a backup source of power.
