IBM T41 usb drivers not installing

Hey Guys,
I recently reformatted my 2379-DJU laptop because there was a virus. After numerous times of reinstalling the software, I realized that one of the drivers for the Wifi was corrupt and thus, I was not able to install all the basic Thinkpad/IBM software that comes with the laptop. I originally thought this wasn't a problem but when I try using my USB port, my: 1. ipod is not detected by my itunes and 2. my compact flash reader is not showing up on my "My Computer". I naturally went to the lenovo website to find the drivers ( http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 8.html#usb ) but the only USB driver is for windows NT, not XP. Do you happen to know what's wrong with my computer? The iPod charges on the USB and if I want to update songs on my iPod, for some strange reason, I have to reinstall iTunes for it to detect my iPod. Thanks for your help!

I don't know about the driver download issue specifically, but did you try to just let windows reinstall a default driver and see if that works?

Another way to rule out a different issue would be to boot up a Linux live CD and see they work there (to rule out a physical issue). I don't ever remember having to DL USB drivers in the past, and the only issue I ever had was on an old t42 where they stopped operating in 2.0 and only worked as 1.1 so some devices didn't work any more.

Perhaps someone else knows more, but that is just my $.02.

I would try the intel chipset support module first.

I installed the chipset software and everything. But the computer still doesn't see the compact flash port when I plug it into the USB. What's weird is that I can plug in my iPod and it shows up in My Computer as a hard drive but iTunes still doesn't see it. I have no idea what's going on with my computer and it's getting really frustrating. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Since you had problems during installation, I would reinstall OS. Just keep the ethernet driver on a USB stick during installation.

the problem with the reinstall is that it constantly "breaks"/BSOD at the point where the computer tries to activate the wireless card. i found that the only way i can get an install to work is i let that break happen and prevent the wireless card drivers from installing. for the reformat, i just use the "restore factory settings" in the IBM start up screen. is there a way where I can just reformat without installing the wireless driver?

Why don't you remove the wireless card, finish the installation, then try to add the card. May be the card is defective or the miniPCI slot has a problem.
