Kingston ValueRAM PC2700 ok for X40?

#1 Post by kadf88 » Mon Feb 07, 2005 5:05 pm

I really need to upgrade the RAM on my X40 and since the place i buy from is out of stock on the low-latency Corsair I was thinking of putting in a stick of Kingston PC2700 ValueRAM, anyone have any experience with these? or perhaps Micron, Crucial??
I read somewhere that Crucial RAM doesn't play nice with IBMs...

Hey...

First.. Micron makes Crucial memory so it's really the same thing. Crucial are just hand picked micron modules.
My X31 actally came shipped with Crucial PC2700 and I purchased a 512 mb stick of Crucial.

So far I think it's been working great and have had no problems at all with it. I would defenitely recommend it for notebooks. Corsair is also very good, (I used it in my desktop), but I don't think they are much better than the crucial.

Crucial RAM is probably the memory that gets the best ratings from users overall. Always a top-notch product.
Kingston also makes good RAM, but the ValueRAM is usually NOT on that list. I have read about many issues with the ValueRAM. I have Kingston HyperX in my desktop, and it has been great, and gets good reviews. Corsair and Mushkin also have good products.

I would not recommend Kingmax, Transcend, PNY or many other brands that I consider to be "second tier".

Again, I don't think you can go wrong with Crucial in a Thinkpad.

If you can remember where you read that Crucial does not "play nice" with Thinkpads, please post a link, because I would like very much to read it.

Crucial stands by their memory. If they say it will work in your machine, it will work or they will refund your purchase.
