How do I create restore CDs?

#1 Post by Weogo » Tue Aug 04, 2009 10:13 pm

Hi Y'all,

I have an X41 Tablet and bought an IBM SSD, the 60GB 41W0736.

I have not been able to figure out how to create restore CDs to copy Windows XP Tablet from my old current hard drive to load on the new drive.

How do I create the restore CDs?

Thanks and good health, Weogo

The X41 probably didn't offer the option to make recovery discs. You can use imaging software like True Image to image the old drive onto the new one.

Thanks for the reply and info!
Ok, I'm not nuts for not finding the disc making software on the X41T!

After years of searching for something other than Norton Ghost to create a bootable install CD/DVD of my current system disk(s), I recently found 'Disk Image':

http://www.disk-image.net/

This will make a bootable reinstall copy of your current system disk And it works! It will solve the problem for many of the requests made on this forum, providing you have a working system disk in the first place, and you make a bootable CD/DVD of it, before it throws a wobbler or goes wrong. It will span CD/DVDs when the installed system exceeds the capacity of one CD/DVD, and is a doddle to use.

I now sleep easy, with recovery disks for 2 Thinkpads and my desktop, happy in the knowledge that I may never need to install XP from scratch again. And yes, I've tried them!

One caveat: you do need a machine with access to a CD/DVD writer with which to create the boot disk. A USB hard drive is what I use, in conjunction with my desktop. Alternatively, a USB writer that you can connect directly to the laptop

Hi Y'all,

I have Acronis TrueImage11 and used it to create an Acronis boot CD with a USB CD burner.
I then copied my hard drive disk image to an external drive(firewire 800, with an OrangeLink PCMCIA~firewire800 card).
Installed the SSD.
Booted to the Acronis CD.
Copied the disk image to the SSD and it works!

Thanks all, Weogo
