Gaming on a T42...

#1 Post by jcentrel » Mon Feb 07, 2005 6:05 pm

I'm well aware of the fact that the IBM T42 isn't a gaming machine but I have no complaints gaming on it so far. Obviously gaming isn't my primary function on my laptop (my fiancé may disagree with that statement) but I cleared Half Life and Half Life 2 which is pretty resource intensive. I also occasionally play Counter Strike (again I think my fiancé would disagree with the use of the word occasionally) and the laptop performance is awesome! I'm going to load Doom 3 on the machine this week and will reply to my post to let everyone know how it goes. Anyway, for all those wondering and hesitant to purchase because they are wondering if they will be able to play the occasional game, don't hesitate, this machine is awesome!

My setup is similar, and IIRC Doom3 ran at an "acceptable for single-player" 35-39fps in med detail, 640x480. That, and 3DMark05 are by far the most taxing real-time apps I've run on my system. HL2 doesn't have per-pixel shaders, and runs much faster.

Too bad the video chipsets are soldered in, I wouldn't mind upgrading to one of the new cores ;)
