R60 Battery Issue

Friend of mine asked me to look at her thinkpad and I thought I'd ask here before screwing with stuff.

Battery doesn't charge at all and Windows will not fully boot with the battery in place. I take the battery out and all is well. I haven't messed with it much yet but she also stated that the touchpad also stops working occasionally.

Any help would be much appreciated.

It is difficult to diagnose without a 2nd battery to try
