SSD HDD from R61e doesn't work in T61p
I've removed the HDD from my R61e and put it into my T61p, the computer doesn't recognise it at all. Tried another SSD HDD from another laptop of mine and same deal. Any ideas why the T61p doesn't seem to be able to run SSD HDD?

The one from the R61e is a OCZ Technology Core Series v2 SATAII 2.5" Sold State Drive and the other is a Silicone Power SSD 2.5" SATA Solid State Disk 64GB.

Did you try setting the BIOS to compatibility mode?
T42p - Pentium M 1.8Ghz, 1 GB RAM, 60 GB 7200 RPM, ATI Mobility FireGL T2 128MB
T61p - Core 2 Duo 7300, 3 GB RAM, 320 GB 7200 RPM, nVidia Quadro FX 570M 256MB

There is absolutely no reason why the SSDs shouldn't work in a T61p. Can you describe how you find out that they're not recognized in the T61p? It may be an issue with the drives not initialized and thus can't be detected.

If I put the original HDD back in, and then go into the BIOS and into the Boot sequence order, where it says ATA HDD0, it says "ATA HDD0: HITACHI HTS722016K9SA00-(S1)" (so it states the name of the HDD there). Now if I replace the HDD with either SSD, it just says "ATA HDD0:" (so not followed by the name of the HDD) - which indicates to me that the BIOS is not even recognising that there is a HDD plugged in!AvalonXIII wrote:There is absolutely no reason why the SSDs shouldn't work in a T61p. In addition to that, despite ATA HDD0 being listed as first in the boot sequence order, the PC does not boot off the HDD - I assume this is also because it does not recognise that there is a HDD there too boot off.
If I boot off the Windows DVD, and try to install Windows, the installation cannot find the HDD either (which in every other PC I have had either of these HDD's in, Vista installation has found the HDD's no dramas without me having to load any additional drivers or anything).
As I said above, both SSD's are from working machines and have fresh Windows installations on them, so should be able to boot off. The one from the R61e should run fine since the specs of the R61e are very very similar to that of the T61p.

Like Pocket Aces already mentioned, go into your T61p BIOS, Config -> SATA ->
Change the entry from AHCI to Compatibility and you're done.

Success!
I went into the BIOS and restored the factory defaults. I then went and changed the SATA mode to Compatability. I then fitted the OCZ SSD and nothing. So I pulled my Gigabyte T1028 apart and removed the SSD from that which was the Silicone-whatever brand one and that has booted up fine! Looks like I won't even have to do a reinstall of Windows!
