Still trying to determine what "OA2 version" of mobo means

#1 Post by wpod » Fri Aug 07, 2009 5:06 pm

Greetings- Thanks again to RealBlackStuff for all of his help :thumbs-UP: . The dead mobo in my Z61m is this: 42W7744 / 42W7743 SYSTEM PLANAR; FRU PLANAR CARD ASM 945GM which has Intel graphics integrated. "RBS" found this on Ebay : http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-IBM-Thinkpad-Z6 ... 0443624989
which seems fully compatible with my unit, the Only difference according
to the HMM, is that my board is an OA2 version, and the eBay board is not. Does anyone have a clue as to what OA2 means and if it will make any difference in my application?? I'm this close to being "up and running" again, Thanks very much, Paul, Providence, R.I.

You'll be OK with that planar. Is your CPU Core Duo or Core 2 Duo?

Thank you for the reply. I'm not near the Z61m at the moment, but if memory serves me correct, it has the Core Duo processor. I will post the actual processor "name" when I get home later today. Are you implying that the board will work with one and not the other? Thanks very much, regards, Paul

On this generation of the machines, board revision is important for determining whether a C2D will work on it.

A simple Core Duo will work on all of them.

Hello again- Yes, it is an Intel Core Dual, so I guess that I will go ahead and purchase that motherboard. After I get the motherboard and associated components installed, is there a lot of complicated software based configuring that I will need to do? If so, Is there an online guide for the procedure? My mechanical skills far outweigh my configuration skills. Thanks for all of your help. regards, Paul
