Where to find a nice T4x in Canada?

Hi,

Id like to the thank the owner and participants of this great thinkpad resource, its just great.

Im looking forward to getting my first Thinkpad, a used/refurb T4x of some type and was wondering if anyone could please recommend me a good Canadian vendor? I assume I should order from within Canada to avoid duties and easier shipping?

So far Im looking at the offical IBM refurb store or the main Canadian ThinkPad seller on Ebay from Toronto...has anyone had good *recent* experience with either? Prices are about $60 apart for the base T43 models with the offical IBM site being more costly...

For a nice T43, maybe around $350 shipped or so. Do you think that sounds about right?

You might want to look at the R60 too. They're well built machines as well. You'll probably get a Core Duo, which will be relevant longer than the Pentium M in the T43, and access to bigger/faster SATA drives. There was a R60e that sold the other day in the Marketplace forum for $200, though that had a Celeron. Good Luck.

Two questions:
1. Do you really mean you can buy a T4x for $60 Canadian in Canada? If so, grab it fast - the price is unbeatable!
2. What does "apart for" mean above? "Apiece" or "except for"?

You are in ottawa, so there is a store in bells corners called The Trailing Edge (http://www.tte.ca) which on sunday has a sale R60 for $500, R61 (discrete graphics 15.4") = $600 with a one year warrenty. If you want anything else, wait a while, I have seen every thinkpad model from T20 to T61p. That is where I have gotten all my computers for the last couple of years and I am happy with them, they warned me about the GPU issue, but said is should be good for a long time provided you don't pick it up from the front, but then it turned out to be the thermal problem They will warn you of potential problems. I highly reccomend them.

Thanks Fred, that sounds like a great deal too bad I missed it. Due to information overlead Ive only studied the T4x models, otherwise Id be spending tons more time looking at all the other series which to me all look indentical.

But I will certainly check out the R60 if it comes similarly speced for a lot less. Thanks!

Thanks a lot Craig, I see you are in Ottawa too - its a small world!

I do know about TTE but have always thought their prices to be too high. For example that sale on Sunday has a bottom end T40 for $299, while the Ebay store sells T42/43 all day long for $230 (+30 shipping). Granted, TTE has a local location so it would be easier if things went wrong or you wanted to check-out the machine first.

Regardless I will see what they have in stock, I certainly dont mind paying more if its a better condition product!

Unfortunatly 600+tax is out of my price range, as the laptop would not be a primary or even secondary machine.

That would be an A2x. Could be an A20p as the other computers in the picture are pretty old.
