Question to confirm about GPU issue on T43 (Intel vs ATi)

#1 Post by JohnB2000 » Sat Aug 08, 2009 3:59 pm

Im just about to buy an T43 refurb Thinkpad.

To confirm before ordering, is it preferable to order the Intel GMA900 since it should not have the GPU issue caused by the ATix300? (Because the GMA900 graphics controller should have less potential for problems?) And overall the T43 should be a better bet than a T42 with all other things being equal?

And regarding screen size:

I dont plan to bring the notebook around with me much if at all so Id prefer a 15" screen. But I found a good price on a 14.1 XGA....would the smaller monitor be okay, there isnt a huge difference in size for day to day use right? ...

Also would the SXGA+ make a HUGE difference? Or is the base screen fine for regular use (I like large font and large icons.)

Many thanks!

Looks like you have it right on all counts. And, I think you will like the XGA screen best. Especially if it's a 14".
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

Although Intel-based T43s are a safer bet than any other T4x units, do bear in mind that they do not support a DVI output when hooked to a dock unlike their siblings with ATi graphics.

T43s are generally safer than the rest of the T4x bunch altogether, but if you have no need for a DVI output, Intel graphics should be your choice IMHO.
