YET ANOTHER T42 carrying case !!!!

#1 Post by aamsel » Tue Feb 08, 2005 12:17 am

Am about to order a Booq Powersleeve 14, but...

what do you think about this case???
http://www.brenthaven.com/store/flash/p ... tfolio.pdf
available at newegg.com at:
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductde ... 101&DEPA=0

Looks like a T42 with 6 cell would JUST FIT in it.

What are your thoughts on this case??

Thanks,
Andrew

Oooh...very sexy!
Would go very well with a dark suit...hmmm...a snug fit, not meant for anothing else except the notebook and perhaps a very thin notepad...

No AC thingie will fit I wager...

that is a dead ringer for the transnote case that was being sold by a fellow in NY..
there is a link on thinkpads.com..
he was charging about $80 and i thought it was well worth the $$..

this one looks like a deal..
and if it IS the same case (but without the ibm logo and neat red dot zipper pull) then there is a place for the AC adapter in a side pocket..
a very slim side pocket..
not really suitable for an ac adapter but useable with care..

Hi folks-

I can't comment on the specific case shown in this thread, but I am a BIG Brenthaven fan. Five years ago I got my first Brenthaven bag, the expandable topload, and it served me well. After about 4.5 years of VERY heavy road-warrior use, it still looked almost like new except that two of the zippers were coming undone.

I emailed Brenthaven, asking about repair options. They said they would take care of it, just send them the bag. I think they sent me a shipping box for it. The same week, they sent me a brand new bag. :D

Their service and quality are absolutely top notch. Brenthaven makes the right bag to carry a Thinkpad!! My big worry is that the T42P (2373-htu) I'm getting in a day or two may no longer fit my topload bag. I've measured carefully and it will be tight.

I have a booq bag and are happy with it. Admitedly though Sometimes I find myself going into meetings without the bag since it's a bit of an eyesore when compared to everyone elses leather laptop bags. This one does look nice.

I think my only worries about this bag I posted about are:
1.) You probably have to totally unzip it to get the notebook out.
2.) The elastic straps may not hold it, since the T42 is going to take up the ENTIRE space inside it.
3.) The extended battery is NEVER going to fit (although I have no plans to use one.
4.) The a/c adapter will undoubtedly be a tight squeeze, and might "deform" the case to get it in.

IRT aamsel's comments..

it IS going to be a tight fit for the AC adapter..
and it is a dangerous thing to do since the ac adapter could damage the thinkpad IF it was pressed into it from the outside..
i.e. don't stack things on it when its loaded with thinkpad and ac adapter..

the 9 cell will NOT fit..
the fit IS close..
i would be sure that there are no rough materials inside..
(too many bags have velcro or other coarse materials that can abrade the finish of a thinkpad)
if so, glue some soft material over it..

how do you refurbish a carry bag..?
retape the carton..?? :)

I assume that a refurbished leather bag would be one that had a broken zipper, etc. that Brenthaven repaired and is now reselling. Just a guess?

I just got off the phone with Brenthaven customer service.

I thought that the picture I posted was the back of the case, but it actually is the front. The only pocket in it could accomodate a thin file folder or two. There are no pleats in the pocket, or any real "give" to it, so a power brick is not going to fit.

Darn it all!

I have not seen a leather case, or ANY case as attractive and "minimalistic" as this one. Unfortunately, it is so "minimalistic" that it won't carry the power supply.

Any thing else come close other than the Powersleeve 14 ???
(even the Powersleeve barely carries the power supply, from what I have heard).
Again, I am ready to order one, but it doesn't do much for me either.

Hi all, first time poster, but LOONG time THinkpad user. I also have a *thing* about the perfect case. THis one is close, but useless without the brick and cord. Ideally, it needs a sleeve across the bottom with a zipper that holds the brick and cord. I wonder if there is a perfect case?

By the way, the latest TP i have is the 42. Grew from the 600, t21,t22,t30,t41 and now t42. Several *companies* along the way have helped fiancially! hehehe

wonder how much money would you need to start manufacturing sleeves that fit thinkpads perfectly, something similar to booq.vyper
