New Keyboard T60

#1 Post by sscalf » Sun Aug 09, 2009 5:14 pm

I know that the keyboard issue is one that has been discussed quite frequently on the forum. I would just look up the posts related to it, but the search term "keyboard" has been locked. My "A" key is giving me problems. I know that there are two different keyboards that are available. If I were to replace the keyboard in my machine, which one is the better of the two and where can I get one?

Many of the 8744 machines are still under warranty, and whichever type is thought to be better, I believe the best ones are the ones someone else pays for. Check here:

(sorry if you have already done that) If you figure out which kind you think is best, I probably have one. If you are interested, send me a PM.

There's three keyboards for the T60 - Alps Chicony and NMB. The NMB is generally considered to be the best. If you are under warranty it's easy to get replaced. Call them up and they'll send you one.

They will send me one? It is under warranty, but the thought of being with out my machine while they took their sweet time deciding if they were going to replace my keyboard had me looking at other alternatives. How do I go about getting them to send me a new keyboard?

1-800-426-7378. Tell them you're having a problem with the keyboard. I'd bet they'll send you a new one. I once called in the afternoon to get a new keyboard. The delivery person woke me up the next morning.

Yes, if you're still in warranty, they will send you a new keyboard. Just remove the palmrest, then the old keyboard and replace it with the new one.

Well I called them this morning and they said that they would send out a new keyboard today and that I would have it by tomorrow. I am glad. It is so hard to let them take it even for a week. :|

I just wanted to say thank you for those who advised me to contact Lenovo about warranty service. I called yesterday morning and I am now typing this message on my brand new keyboard. With now shine on the keys the machine almost looks like a brand new laptop. I just have one question. Am I supposed to send the old keyboard back? there is a return label.

Thanks,

Yes, you should send it back. Otherwise, if they don't receive it within some time, they will charge you for the part.

If there is a return label un the box, then yes. If not, then no. They are a little inconsistent about this.

I called the service center and asked if I had to return the old keyboard and the told me that they did not want it back. So I guess I will keep it and use it as wall art or something!!!
